Prince William will attend the BAFTA Awards gala alone this Sunday, as his wife Kate Middleton is still recovering from surgery.
The Prince of Wales has been honorary chairman of the BAFTAs since 2010 and his presence is a regular at the ceremony, but Kate’s convalescence had cast doubt on whether he would attend this year.
Prince William to attend the BAFTAs alone
William will finally attend the 77th British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards without his wife.
Kate will thus miss the opportunity to shine for another year on the red carpet with her elegant styles, after undergoing abdominal surgery in a London hospital in January.
The prince suspended his institutional agenda in recent weeks to stay with his wife, although last week he resumed his commitments by attending a charity event in which he thanked the shows of support for Kate and King Charles III, who is also being treated for a recently diagnosed cancer.
At the BAFTA gala, William could use his speech as honorary president to also show his support for his wife and father in this delicate moment.
In previous editions, the prince has made a nod to the series The Crown, and in 2014 he made a joke to Helen Mirren whom he called his “granny” for her portrayal of Elizabeth II in the film ‘The Queen’.
Among the films nominated for best film this year are titles such as Anatomy of a Fall, Killers of the Flower Moon, Oppenheimer or Poor Things.
