William at the coronation
William had a special role in Charles’ Coronation ceremony which took place on May 6.
According to British media reports, Charles III decided to dispense with the traditional act in which the royal dukes kneel to pay homage before touching the crown and kissing the monarch’s right cheek.
Instead, only Prince William, before kissing his father on the cheek, uttered the following words:
“I, William, Prince of Wales, pledge my loyalty to you and faith and truth I will bear unto you, as your liege man of life and limb. So help me God.”
Prince William’s new challenges
Before celebrating his birthday, Prince William gave his first interview since becoming heir to the throne. There, he revealed his commitment to tackling homelessness and announced plans to build social housing on his private estate.
The prince plans to unveil “a really big project” in his fight against homelessness, which will be unveiled later this month. Expressing his enthusiasm for this initiative to ‘The Sunday Times’ newspaper, he commented that he was very excited. “I’ve been waiting for the right time to do this”.
William is expected to have celebrated his birthday in an intimate way, having had a big party last year when he turned 40. The son of King Charles and Princess Diana was born in the Lido wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London at 9:03 p.m. on June 21, 1982.
