Just a few days after he appeared in high spirits at a rugby match with Princess Kate Middleton, Prince William has crossed borders for his first official trip of the year. The destination? Estonia, a key country on the European geopolitical chessboard.
William landed on Thursday, March 20, in this small Baltic state neighboring Russia. This time, his wife Kate did not accompany him.
Prince William in Estonia
The main purpose of his visit is to meet British troops stationed there and review “Operation Cabrit,” a NATO initiative aimed at strengthening security in the region.
However, the Prince’s agenda goes beyond military affairs. His first stop was a meeting with Estonian President Alar Karis, where the conflict in Ukraine was undoubtedly at the forefront of the conversation. After all, the situation in Eastern Europe remains a pressing issue.
In addition to engaging with the troops and discussing high-level matters, William is also taking the opportunity to gain insights into how Estonia is addressing the energy crisis.
But it’s not all serious business. On his first day, the Prince met with children from Lotte Kindergarten in Tallinn, who patiently waited to see him. Naturally, there were small gifts for George, Charlotte, and Louis.
To conclude his visit, William plans to meet with Ukrainian families who have sought refuge in Estonia in recent years.
Interestingly, this is not the first visit by a member of the monarchy to Estonia this year. In January, Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh and William’s uncle, also visited the area to attend military events. It seems Estonia is firmly on the radar of the British royals.
