Prince William, second in line to the British throne, has been fulfilling more official duties after he unexpectedly skipped the memorial service in honor of King Constantine of Greece, held last Tuesday, February 27, at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.
The Prince of Wales then claimed personal reasons for not attending the event, prompting speculation on social media about possible health complications for his wife.
However, royal sources denied the rumors, assuring that Kate Middleton is well and that William’s absence had nothing to do with her.
The 42-year-old princess is recovering privately from an abdominal operation she underwent on January 16, and according to Kensington Palace, she is “unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”
Prince William in Wales
Meanwhile, Prince William has traveled to Wales to celebrate St. David’s Day, the country’s patron saint.
On Friday, the 41-year-old Prince of Wales visited Wrexham, where he took part in several events related to Welsh culture and history.
His first stop was The Turf pub, the oldest pub in the world, located next to a sports stadium, the Racecourse Ground of Wrexham Association Football Club.
There, Prince William sat behind the bar, toasting and sipping whisky with Rob McElhenney, the actor and co-owner of the club, and Wayne Jones, the pub’s landlord.
He also met with staff, members of the community and representatives of various charities to hear about their initiatives to unite and support local people.
The eldest son of King Charles then proceeded to the football pitch where he was presented with a Wrexham shirt with his name and number 9 on the back.
Another stop on Prince William’s day was at Ysgol Yr Holl Saint/All Saint’s School primary school, where he watched the children celebrate St. David’s Day and bake a fruit bread called Bara Brith.
At the school, William received three dragon toys for his children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
“Look at this! Thank you so much, the children will love these when I come home with them,” the Prince of Wales told the students.
He also received a bouquet of flowers for Kate Middleton.
“I’m going to give these to Catherine as well,” he told the students, according to a video shared by Radio City News.
Prince William ended his day at the Gresford Colliery disaster memorial, where he paid tribute to the 266 victims of the explosion that occurred 90 years ago.
