William suspected Meghan’s intentions from the start, according to revelations from those close to the queen
A new controversy is rocking the Windsor family, this time with Prince William at the center of revelations that point to his early distrust of Meghan Markle.
According to biographer Phil Dampier, the heir to the throne perceived from the outset that the former actress’s arrival in the royal family was more about a desire for fame than a commitment to the institution.
This assertion is reinforced by statements attributed to Lady Elizabeth Anson, cousin and close confidante of the late Queen Elizabeth II, who also expressed reservations about Meghan’s intentions.
Dampier maintains that William “was concerned from the outset” about what he saw as a strategic use of her marriage to Prince Harry.
In his words, Markle “never really had any intention of staying in the royal family,” a suspicion that allegedly caused the rift between the brothers.
The alleged confirmation by someone as close to the queen as Anson—who died in 2020—gives the story unusual weight, according to him.
Along the same lines, commentator Esther Krakue suggests that there is a common pattern in the testimonies about Markle within circles close to the royal family.
“We keep hearing things consistently coming out from courtiers and people who are close to the royal family,” she said, adding that even King Charles had made comments about Meghan’s influence on his youngest son.
In her opinion, Queen Elizabeth’s perception of the duchess changed gradually, from initial sympathy to a much more critical view over time.
Although Krakue acknowledges that the monarch welcomed Meghan with open arms, considering her “very intelligent, very well-spoken,” he also suggests that the real conflict arose from the cultural clash brought about by her presence.
In this context, the expectations of renewal generated by Markle would have clashed with a traditional structure unwilling to yield to new forms of prominence.
