A 2019 quote from Prince William about his damaged relationship with Prince Harry has gone viral on TikTok, garnering over 1,900,000 views.
The emotional account was given to a journalist shortly before Harry first publicly confirmed tensions between the brothers.
The video has resurfaced after Harry’s recent visit to see King Charles III following his cancer diagnosis.
Prince William message to Harry
The quote originated from a meeting between Prince William and Martin Ivens, then-editor of The Sunday Times, at a pub in South London on October 11, 2019.
This was just days before Harry told ITV’s Tom Bradby about the brothers’ “different paths” in the documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey.
According to Ivens, William stated: “I’ve put my arm around my brother all our lives and I can’t do that anymore; we’re separate entities. I’m sad about that.”
The Prince of Wales confided that all he could do was “try and support them and hope that the time comes when we’re all singing from the same page.”
The emotional quote laid bare William’s feelings about his damaged bond with Harry. It remained private until the Sussexes stepped back as working royals in January 2020, when Ivens published it.
Royal author Omid Scobie has since revealed William knew about Harry’s ITV interview in advance.
He and his private secretary Simon Case felt it would “be a problem.” So when William met Ivens, he quickly opened up about his rift with Harry.
