Prince William was noticeably absent from a ceremony at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle held on Tuesday to honor his godfather, the late King Constantine of Greece.
Kensington Palace reported that the Prince of Wales dropped out of the service of Thanksgiving due to a personal matter.
While the exact reason remains undisclosed, William informed the Greek royal family ahead of time that he would be unable to attend the event he was scheduled to participate in.
Prince William did not attend his godfather’s Thanksgiving Service
The ceremony carried on without Prince William’s presence. Queen Camilla formally led the British royal family in her husband King Charles’ stead, as he continues undergoing cancer treatment.
She was joined by an array of royals, including Prince Andrew, Princess Beatrice, Princess Anne, Zara Tindall, and more.
Other royals also attended to pay tribute, like Prince Albert of Monaco and the royal families of Spain, Denmark, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
King Constantine, the last King of Greece who died in January 2023, shared close friendships with the British royal family over the years.
As Prince Philip’s cousin and Queen Elizabeth II’s dear friend, his relationship with the Windsors spanned decades.
Prince William himself was named godfather to one of Constantine’s grandchildren, underscoring their bond.
While William regretfully missed both Constantine’s funeral last year as well as this recent ceremony commemorating his life, the royal family’s esteem for King Constantine remains clear.
So far it is not known whether Prince William’s personal matter is related to the health of his father, King Charles, or to the recovery of his wife Kate Middleton.
