Prince William of Wales, heir to the British throne, resumed his official activities as a member of the royal family on Wednesday, February 7.
William had taken a period of pause due to his wife Catherine’s abdominal surgery and the recent cancer diagnosis facing his father, King Charles III.
Prince William reappears at Windsor Castle
The Prince of Wales attended an Order of the British Empire decoration ceremony at Windsor Castle in the morning.
Images of the event show the prince in a relaxed attitude, chatting amicably with the honorees.
This return to royal activities is due to the fact that, in view of the medical treatment that Charles III is facing, William will have to assume a leading role representing the crown in various official state engagements.
Although Buckingham Palace has not specified the type of cancer the current monarch is suffering from, it has clarified that he will continue to carry out his duties of office work and weekly audiences with the British Prime Minister.
William had drastically reduced his public schedule in recent weeks, focusing on caring for his wife Kate, who underwent abdominal surgery in mid-January.
The princess is expected to have several months of post-operative recovery.
With his return to royal events at a complex time for Charles III’s health, the crown prince resumes his crucial role as the royal family’s chief representative to the British people.
Who succeeds King Charles?
The current heir to the British throne is William, the Prince of Wales – the title given to the heir to the throne of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth realms – and bestowed on him on September 9, 2022, one day after the death of his grandmother, Elizabeth II, and the inauguration of his father as king.
Automatically, his wife, Kate Middleton, became Princess of Wales, a title previously held by Diana Spencer.
Along with the title of Prince and Princess of Wales, William also became Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay, titles inherent to the heir to the British Crown.
What will be William’s name as King?
When he becomes monarch after the death or abdication of Charles III, the now prince will occupy the name of William V.
