Prince William hosted the BAFTA Awards on Sunday, February 18, 2024, a ceremony marked by the notable absence of his wife Kate Middleton.
The Princess of Wales is still recovering from the mysterious abdominal surgery she underwent last January.
Dressed in a smart blue velvet tuxedo, Dickie bow tie and black patent brogues, William walked the red carpet like a Hollywood star.
However, the future king was not spared a few gaffes, which were reported in the press.
Prince William’s BAFTA mistakes
For a ceremony that celebrates the best in cinema, it was a total faux pas for the Prince of Wales not to have seen some of the films up for awards, and even to have dared to comment on some of them, revealing how little he knew about the nominated films.
The future King of the United Kingdom was, unsurprisingly, not afraid to engage in conversation with both the media and some of the nominated actors.
In one of the moments, William admitted that he had not seen one of the main films of the evening, such as “Barbie”, which has the distinction of being the world’s highest grossing film of 2023.
For his part, he replied that he had to see it and assured that he hoped to catch up and see all the movies that he and his wife, Kate Middleton, had not yet seen.
Another gaffe made by the Prince of Wales that attracted a lot of attention was when talking to Mia McKenna-Bruce, who won the BAFTA award for best newcomer for her role in the drama film ‘How to have sex’.
The future king declared that it sounded like a very funny production. These words suggested that he had not seen it, as it is a fictional movie in which the protagonist goes on vacation to a Greek island where she is raped by a tourist.
These details suggest that William did not appear to have adequately prepared for his appearance at the gala.
Perhaps this is due to the adverse circumstances he has recently experienced, such as his wife’s surgery and the cancer diagnosis of his father, King Charles III.
