Prince William’s trip to Cape Town for the Earthshot Prizes, to be held on Wednesday, November 6, offers many nuances beyond his commitment to the environment.
Like last year, William is traveling without the company of his wife, Kate Middleton, who has yet to regain her schedule after completing her chemotherapy treatment for cancer.
The eldest son of King Charles III arrived in South Africa on Monday, November 4, and will remain there until midweek.
The heir is expected to return to the UK ahead of the scheduled Remembrance Day events.
Although he is thousands of miles away, the Prince of Wales is still thinking about his family.
In fact, upon landing in South Africa, one of the details that has attracted the most attention was the friendship bracelet he was wearing.
Prince William’s Friendship Bracelet
This bracelet, handmade and in shades of blue and green, bears the name ‘Papa’ and was probably created by his daughter Princess Charlotte.
William’s children often refer to him as ‘Papa,’ and they even sent him special messages on Father’s Day and his 42nd birthday.
Charlotte, a lover of arts and crafts, is also a big fan of Taylor Swift, who encourages her fans to exchange friendship bracelets.
William and his older children attended one of Swift’s concerts in London a few months ago and had the opportunity to meet her.
Not only does William wear such bracelets, but other members of the royal family also have their own versions. For example, Prince George wore one in his most recent official birthday photo, and King Charles III has been spotted wearing another one at various official events, possibly a gift from his beloved eldest granddaughter.
So while the Earthshot Prizes are the focus of the trip, the family touch of the bracelet shows that, no matter the distance, a parent’s love is always present.
