Every so often the British royal family measures their popularity in surveys with their subjects. This time a new measurement has pleasantly benefited the future king of England.
In the polls, Princess Kate Middleton is always the one who takes the lead in people’s acceptance levels and she leads both on British and American soil the lists of the most popular royals… so far.
Prince William’s popularity
Despite the scandals that have surrounded Princess Diana’s son, especially regarding his alleged mistress Rose Hanbury, William ranked one place above Kate as the most popular member of the British royal family.
Some 22,000 people from all corners of the Commonwealth voted on who of all the members of the British Royal Family was dearest to them.
The survey was commissioned by Lord Ashcroft, former chairman of the British Conservative Party.
At the top of the list with a very high percentage appears the name of the late Queen Elizabeth II, despite having died nine months ago, 76% of respondents said that the sovereign was and is the most beloved member of the institution.
William, 40, is the second person to have the second highest percentage in her favor, a total of 64%, say he is the future of the institution and that they expect him to be the successor of his father. Many think that the first in the line of succession would play a better role than his father.
Following in his footsteps is Diana of Wales, with 63%, his mother, although she passed away more than 25 years ago, people do not forget her and keep her alive in their memory as one of the most beloved members of the British Royal Family.
In fourth place are Kate Middleton and Princess Anne, both of whom are favored by respondents with a 62% approval rating.
Something never seen before in popularity rankings, as Kate Middleton is usually one of the most loved and admired royals by her compatriots.
It is the first time that there is such a difference between the scores of the Prince and Princess of Wales and in which William comes out favored.
People look favorably on Princess Anne being the hardest working member of the family and her children, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, being normal people with their respective jobs.
Charles and Camilla’s popularity drops
King Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, were the least popular in this poll. Charles, who was crowned on May 8, 2023, received a score of 54%.
While Queen Camilla Parker has only obtained a 39%, a catastrophic result considering the position occupied by Princess Diana, who has been dead for more than 20 years.
Meghan and Harry do not appear in this survey as it is a measurement only of active members of the British monarchy and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex resigned from their official duties in 2020.
