2024 was a tough year for several members of the royal family. King Charles was diagnosed with cancer, while Princess Kate Middleton also had to face her own health problem, and Princess Anne suffered a serious accident that affected her memory.
In June, the royal household announced that King Charles’ sister had had a horseback riding accident, which led to her spending five days in the hospital due to a brain concussion.
This episode was not only troubling but left many uncertain about how it would affect Princess Anne.
Months after the accident, Anne finally broke her silence and spoke out about what happened.
What did Princess Anne say about her accident?
During a two-day tour of South Africa, Princess Anne shared some terrifying details of the accident that left her with a concussion, as reported here on RoyalFamily.news.
The Princess Royal admitted that she couldn’t remember anything about the incident. The accident taught her that “every day is a bonus, really,” the BBC reported.
When questioned about what she remembered just before the accident, Anne replied that she remembers absolutely nothing.
The princess shared that although she thought she was going to see the chickens, she had no idea what she was doing in the field, as she didn’t normally go that way.
“Seeing the chickens was ‘my regular visit,’” she added. “I don’t have any idea what I was doing in the field, because I never normally went that way.”
She then reflected on the lessons the event left her with, “It just reminds you, shows you – you never quite know, something [happens] and you might not recover.”
Anne ended on a note of thanks for her state of mind, expressing, “You’re jolly lucky … if you can continue to be more or less compos mentis [of sound mind], and last summer I was very close to not being.”
When asked if she had suffered any long-term damage, the princess quipped, “Apparently not – at least I don’t think so. As far as I know, nobody else thinks so – they haven’t been honest enough to tell me yet.” With a touch of humor and resignation, she concluded, “So far, so good.”
Despite the hardships, Princess Anne’s resilient spirit shines through her words. Her ability to find lessons in the midst of adversity is a powerful reminder to all of us about the importance of valuing each day.
