A heartwarming clip of Princess Diana and a baby Prince Harry has recently gone viral, drawing significant attention on TikTok.
The footage, captured during Harry’s christening in 1984, showcases a tender interaction between the beloved royal and her youngest son.
As Prince Harry approaches his 40th birthday on September 15, this resurfaced video offers a poignant reminder of his early years and his close bond with his mother.
Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Harry has openly shared his feelings about Diana, particularly highlighting the deep grief he experienced after her tragic death in a Paris car crash when he was just 12 years old.
In his 2023 memoir, “Spare,” Harry delved into his emotional journey and the lasting impact of losing his mother.
Prince Harry’s Christening
The viral clip was uploaded to TikTok by user @princess__jo on July 26, amassing over 396,100 views. It features Diana, elegantly dressed in blue, tenderly caring for her infant son during the christening ceremony at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, on December 21, 1984.
Senior royals, including Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Mother, attended the event, marking it as a significant occasion.
Prince Harry’s godparents, a mix of family and close friends, included Prince Andrew, Lady Sarah Chatto, Carolyn Bartholomew, Bryan Organ, Gerald Ward, and Lady Celia Vestey.
In the touching footage, Diana is seen wiping Harry’s chin and inviting his cousins, Peter and Zara Phillips, to meet him.
A voice-over from the original broadcast captures the moment, noting: “Mother knelt on the carpet to show the baby to the children, but by now a tearful Prince Harry had had enough.”
The video has garnered over 34,900 likes and more than 144 comments, with many users expressing their admiration and nostalgia.
One user commented, “A beautiful clip always in our hearts,” while another added, “The best mother.” Some even noted the resemblance between Prince Harry and his son, Archie: “Prince Archie looks just like his dad when he was a baby.”
In a 2016 documentary celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday, both Prince William and Harry reflected on their childhood memories, including the christening footage.
Harry humorously remarked, “Mummy looks great in blue,” but expressed skepticism about the traditional christening gown, saying, “Still not convinced about the dress that I’m in!”
The christening gown, originally made in 1841 for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s eldest child, Princess Victoria, was crafted from English lace and worn by generations of royal children.
By the early 2000s, the gown had become too fragile for continued use.
Queen Elizabeth II commissioned an exact replica in 2008, first used at the christening of her youngest grandson, James, the Earl of Wessex. This replica gown has since been worn by several royal children, including Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, and Prince Harry’s son, Archie.
