The leaked recordings of Princess Diana that appear in the documentary ‘Diana: In Her Own Words’ have once again become a topic of conversation.
This past August 31 marked the 26th anniversary of her death. After so long, new fragments of the tapes have come to light.
The original recordings were released in 2017. Now, however, new excerpts never before heard in the United States have been released.
Princess Diana recordings
Diana recorded a total of seven hours. However, not all of the tapes have been released.
These new fragments will be part of a new documentary to be released in early 2024 and will be a continuation of the 2017 production.
It is important to note that princess Diana recorded her innermost thoughts and feelings on these tapes, which were intended for author Andrew Morton.
Morton used these recordings to write one of the best-selling books about the princess.
As reported by the Daily Mail, in the leaked audios, Diana can be heard revealing intimacies about Prince Charles and talking about her bad relationship with her stepmother.
In one of the recordings, Diana mentions that Charles was disappointed with their second child, Prince Harry, and expressed his wish that it would be a girl.
The partial release of the contents of these tapes in 2017 caused much controversy, especially among some of the princess’s friends and acquaintances, who felt that the release of the tapes violated her privacy.
Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, claimed that the tapes belonged to the family and fought a long legal battle to prevent their release.
However, the courts ruled that Diana’s voice coach, Peter Settelen, was the rightful owner of the copyright and the tapes were returned to him.
Settelen then sold the rights to the tapes to NBC for an undisclosed sum.
These new revelations about Princess Diana’s recordings will undoubtedly generate even more interest and speculation about her life and her relationship with the British royal family.
