Princess Eugenie surprised her followers on Instagram by proudly revealing a striking scar.

The granddaughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II, who recently celebrated her second child’s first birthday, used the platform to raise awareness about a condition that affects thousands of people worldwide.

Eugenie, 34, marked International Scoliosis Awareness Day on June 26 by sharing three photos from her royal wedding day in 2018 on her personal Instagram page.

Her wedding gown intentionally did not conceal the scar from her spinal surgery at age 12 due to scoliosis—a curvature of the spine.

The princess donned a custom ivory wedding dress designed by Christopher De Vos and Peter Pilotto.

The gown featured a folded neckline, low back, fitted bodice, and pleated skirt for the ceremony at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

In her Instagram post, Eugenie wrote: “Today is International Scoliosis Awareness Day. I just wanted to share my scar and encourage anyone out there who’s gone through something similar to share theirs with me.”

She invited followers to proudly display their own scars, which she would repost on her Instagram.

“To all of you who have just received the diagnosis, to those wearing braces, to those recovering from an operation and for those who have lived with a scar for years — my thoughts are with you on Scoliosis Awareness Day,” Eugenie expressed her gratitude to the doctors, nurses, physical therapists, and researchers at the Scoliosis Support & Research charity.

This isn’t the first time Eugenie has discussed her health issue and her decision to showcase her scar on her wedding day.

“I had always wanted a low back — part of it was showing my scar. And I believe scars tell a story about your past and your future, and it’s a way of getting rid of a taboo,” the royal explained. “For me, it’s a way of communicating with people who are going through either similar situations with scoliosis or having a scar of their own that they are trying to deal with.”
