Kate Middleton’s engagement ring is a jewel that would hardly go unnoticed. Its story not only stands out for its beauty, but also for the symbolism it carries.
This sapphire and diamond ring, originally worn by Princess Diana, has become one of the most iconic objects of the British royal family, and for the first time in four months, the Princess of Wales has worn it again.
Kate Middleton Wears Her Engagement Ring Again
This weekend, at the Remembrance Day celebrations, Kate reappeared wearing the famous ring. Her absence was notorious during these months, a time in which Kate was recovering from an illness that kept her away from public life.
In this solemn event, Kate chose an all-black outfit and, as a highlight, again wore the engagement ring composed of a large Ceylon sapphire, surrounded by small diamonds that sparkled in the light.
The reunion between the princess and this jewel marks a symbol of her gradual return to her duties.
Since Kate and Prince William’s engagement announcement in November 2010, the princess has rarely been separated from this jewel.
However, her recent appearances showed a change, as she had opted to wear only thin “eternity bands”, leaving aside the famous ring.
Kate’s last appearance with her engagement ring was at the Wimbledon final in July, after which she decided to temporarily put it away.
The reason could be simple: Kate likely needed to adjust it after experiencing weight loss stemming from her chemotherapy treatment, a possibility supported by her return with the perfectly fitted piece.
This is not the first time such a modification has been made; when she first received the ring, she also had to have it adjusted to better fit her finger.
After all, this jewel was not originally designed for her, but, thirty years earlier, it was Princess Diana who chose it from the catalog of Garrard jewelry, a favorite of the British Royal House.
This curious detail makes it unique, as most royal engagement rings are exclusive pieces, designed specifically for their wearers.
In contrast, Diana’s ring was a personal choice, a piece she selected herself without the need for a custom design.
With Princess Diana’s death, her jewelry passed into the hands of her sons, Princes William and Harry. At the time, the ring went to Harry, but years later, in a gesture of great generosity, he gave it to William when he shared his intention to propose to Kate.
It was a sign of the closeness between the brothers, who at the time were inseparable.
