Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía are about to embark on very different paths, but one thing seems to remain unchanged between them: their bond.
During their final days together in Mallorca, the daughters of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia once again demonstrated the closeness that has defined their relationship since childhood, just before their academic paths diverge again.

The difference between their futures is clear. Leonor is destined to become Queen of Spain, and every step of her education is tied to that responsibility.

Sofía, on the other hand, has more freedom to choose her own path. Even so, a French publication has portrayed their relationship as a sort of “pact” that could be significant for the future of the Crown.

The idea is striking, but it should be viewed as an interpretation rather than an agreement they have confirmed.
What we do know is that both have received very similar upbringings and have maintained constant communication since Leonor left home to study in Wales.

According to Spanish media, they still keep in touch daily through messages or video calls. This closeness could be especially valuable in a family where their responsibilities will be quite different, and where Sofía could forge her own identity apart from her role as her sister’s heir.

Now comes another separation. Sofía will move to Paris to begin her second year of university, while Leonor will start her studies at the Carlos III University of Getafe after completing her military training.
Their lives will take different paths, but that doesn’t mean they have to drift apart. In fact, if they’ve made one thing clear so far, it’s that each can find her own place while still being there for the other.
