Princess Leonor has arrived in New York aboard the training ship Juan Sebastián Elcano, marking the iconic vessel’s last international stop before its return to Spain.
The disembarkation took place early Wednesday morning at Pier 88 on the Hudson River, where the heiress smiled and waved from the deck alongside her fellow midshipmen, all wearing the characteristic white uniform cap.
Princess Leonor in New York
During her stay in the city, Leonor will continue to fulfill the group’s official agenda, away from rumors of high-profile receptions.
There will be no meetings with political figures or royal family members on this occasion. Instead, the princess will participate in activities aimed at the Spanish community residing in New York, including her role as flag bearer at a civilian flag ceremony and her attendance at a concert at Carnegie Hall entitled A Musical Fantasy from Spain.
Although her classmates will return aboard the Elcano, the eldest daughter of the King and Queen of Spain will fly back in the coming days to begin a new stage aboard the frigate Blas de Lezo, where she will continue her training for about a month.
She will then reunite with her classmates in Gijón before the joint voyage officially concludes on July 14 in Marín.
Leonor’s experience on the Elcano has been an intense stage in her preparation as future Queen.
