Princess Leonor’s military training has been received with great interest by the public.
Her enrollment in the General Military Academy of Zaragoza in August 2023 marked the beginning of a new stage in her education, which will prepare her to be the future leader of the Spanish Armed Forces.
Throughout her education, Princess Leonor has followed in the footsteps of her father, King Felipe VI, by studying at the Armed Forces Academies. She has yet to attend the Air Force and Naval Academies.
However, this process is seen as a strengthening of the role of women in the armed forces.
In addition, Princess Leonor has shown great commitment and enthusiasm during her training.
At the award ceremony of the Princess of Girona Foundation 2023, she stated that it was “an important moment in my life” in which she felt “convinced to continue learning and to give my best to strengthen the values with which I was brought up”.
In general, Princess Leonor’s military training has been seen as an important step on her path to the throne and has generated great public interest.
With a new stage ahead of her, Leonor is already counting the weeks until she graduates from the Military Academy of Zaragoza with the rank of Lieutenant.
It will be next May when the heir to the throne will complete her training in the Army and then move to the Region of Murcia to begin a year of training in the Air Force.
Princess Leonor at the Air Force Academy
Princess Leonor will continue her military training at the General Air Force Academy in San Javier, Murcia. This stage of her training is expected to culminate in 2026.
During her time at the General Air Academy, Princess Leonor is expected to be trained to fly fighter planes, following in the footsteps of her father, King Felipe VI.
In addition to her academic and military training, Princess Leonor will also participate in extracurricular activities.
For example, she recently participated in the XXIV Military Academies Sports Championship, where she competed in fencing and volleyball.
It is important to mention that this training at the General Air Academy is only part of Princess Leonor’s complete military training, which also includes time at the General Military Academy of Zaragoza and the Naval School.
