Oviedo has dressed up to kick off the expected Princess of Asturias Awards 2024, and the great protagonist of the day has been, without a doubt, Princess Leonor.
This Thursday, the heir to the throne attended her first solo event, where she was named Honorary Mayor of Oviedo in the same plenary hall that in 2007 recognized her mother, Queen Letizia, as Favorite Daughter of the city.

The event was not without surprises. Although the arrival of the Princess was scheduled for 12:00 noon in the Plaza de la Constitución, her entrance was delayed by about 25 minutes due to a small inconvenience with the flight that was taking her from Madrid.
This setback, which initially generated a bit of expectation among the attendees, was quickly forgotten when Leonor appeared radiant and smiling, ready to greet the Asturians who were eagerly awaiting her at the doors of the City Hall.
Once inside, the ceremony began and everything seemed to go according to plan until a funny moment occurred that did not go unnoticed.
Princess Leonor’s Awkward Moment in Oviedo
During the imposition of the Honorary Mayoress medal, Leonor’s long hair became entangled with the pendant. Without losing her cool, the young princess solved the situation naturally, causing smiles among those present.
This small incident further humanized the heiress, who appeared close and relaxed throughout the event.
Princess Leonor is, without a doubt, the central figure of this week. She will be in charge of presiding over all the events of the Princess of Asturias Awards until Saturday, when they will conclude with her traditional visit to the Exemplary Village.
Throughout these days she will be accompanied by her parents, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, and her sister, Princess Sofia, who has traveled from Wales to join these important family events.
