After a relaxed Christmas holiday, the Spanish royal family resumes its intense agenda next January 6 with the traditional Military Parade 2024, a military ceremony in which the King and Queen preside over the parade that marks the beginning of the military year.
On this occasion, the big novelty will be the debut of Princess Leonor, who will attend the event for the first time alongside her parents in a further step towards her preparation as heir.
Princess Leonor’s debut at the Military Parade 2024
Leonor’s presence at this event confirms the 18-year-old’s dedication to her institutional career since she came of age.
After recently making her debut at the opening of Parliament, the heiress will again take center stage on January 6.
For this occasion, the Princess of Asturias will be dressed in the uniform of a lady cadet of the Spanish Army, as she did on the last National Day.
Her link with the army justifies that the Royal House has decided to take a step forward and accompany her parents for the first time in an event of deep military significance.
While Queen Letizia will wear a gala dress according to protocol, Leonor will wear her military uniform before returning on January 8 to Zaragoza to continue her training at the General Military Academy, which will end in May.
Who will not be able to attend Leonor’s debut will be her sister, the Infanta Sofia, who will have to return to her studies in Wales on January 4.
Sofia will not be able to accompany her parents to the traditional Three Kings’ Day snack, which has been altered since Leonor also began her studies abroad.
The Military Parade will therefore be an important moment in Princess Leonor’s preparation for her future role as Queen of Spain.
Together with Felipe VI and Letizia, she will demonstrate her commitment to the Crown in a ceremony that will give way to a key 2024 in her path as heir to the throne.
