The stay of Princess Leonor, 18, at the General Military Academy of Zaragoza is coming to an end.
After ten months of intense military training, the heir to the throne says goodbye with a certain nostalgia as she anticipates her next assignment at the Naval School of Marín, in Pontevedra.
In her last speech, upon receiving the title of Adopted Daughter of Zaragoza, she said: “What I have experienced here far exceeds what I thought ten months ago. Here I have felt at home, in a land that will always be part of my life. I am already beginning to miss you.”
Princess Leonor Ends Army Training in Zaragoza
The closing ceremony at the AGM, to be held on June 19, marks the end of his time in the Army after passing theoretical exams and military maneuvers.
This highly significant ceremony also coincides with the tenth anniversary of the Proclamation of Felipe VI, who has confirmed his attendance. However, the presence of Queen Letizia has not yet been confirmed.
Considering that Queen Letizia was present at both Leonor’s Flag Swearing-in and at the commemorative act of Don Felipe’s swearing-in in May, it would be surprising if she were to be absent from this very special event.
The official agenda of the Royal Household, which is published on Fridays, will reveal whether Doña Letizia will be present.
On the other hand, Infanta Sofia, despite being on vacation, will not accompany her sister in Zaragoza, in a gesture that reflects the Royal House’s intention to mark the individual paths of both sisters in the institution.
Last military maneuvers
Leonor and her fellow cadets made a trip to Soria to conclude their military maneuvers, facing special combat and weapons training tests in the mountains of San Leonardo de Yagüe and Navaleno.
Although their presence generated great expectation, strict security measures prevented images of the princess from being released.
Before returning to Zaragoza, the group attended a mass at the hermitage of San Bartolomé, in the Cañón del Río Lobos.
The military course officially ended on June 7, but as we have said, the closing ceremony will be held on the 19th. At that time, Leonor, dressed in her dress uniform, will receive her diploma.
Last act and vacation
Leonor’s duties at the AGM do not end there. Before she begins her summer vacation, she will make her debut alongside Don Felipe at the presentation of dispatches on July 3, where she will receive the title of ensign, marking her official farewell to the academy.
Leonor will enjoy just over a month of vacation, during which, as usual, she is expected to be seen in Palma de Mallorca with her family.
In August, she will begin her Navy training in Marin, Pontevedra, and will continue at the Air Academy in San Javier, Murcia, completing her military training.
