What movies does Princess Leonor like?

One of Leonor’s favorite feature films is the acclaimed ‘Spirited Away’ (2001) by Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki.

The fantastic story of Chihiro, a whimsical girl who enters a world plagued by gods, spirits, and monsters, captivated the Princess from a very young age.

Spirited Away is considered a masterpiece of animation and won the 2002 Oscar for Best Animated Film.

Another gem of Asian cinema on Leonor’s list of favorites is ‘Dersu Uzala’, (1976).

Directed by Akira Kurosawa, it narrates the expedition of a group of Russian soldiers through the inhospitable Siberia, guided by Dersu, an experienced local hunter.

A poetic film about man’s harmony with nature, winner of the Oscar for Best Foreign Film.

But the Spanish heiress also enjoys more commercial and fantastic cinema. She is a staunch fan of the Star Wars saga, having attended with her parents and sister the premiere of all the new Star Wars installments.

As a good child of her generation, she grew up watching Disney children’s classics like Frozen. She went to the movies with Queen Letizia and Queen Sofia to see the live-action Lion King.
