Princess Leonor Faces New Challenges Without Queen Letizia’s Support

Princess Leonor, 18, is going without a vacation, at least for now.

After completing her military training in the Army, many expected that the eldest daughter of the kings could enjoy a few days of rest.

However, her official schedule is fuller than ever, with important commitments that will keep her busy for the next month.

    Princess Leonor’s Busy Schedule

The Royal Household has recognized the importance of Leonor’s role for the future of the monarchy, which explains the increase in her official activities since she came of age.

Barely recovered from the emotion of receiving the title of ensign of the Army from her father, Leonor accompanied her father, King Felipe VI, on July 5 to a military event in Lleida.

For this event, Leonor did not have the support of Queen Letizia and the Infanta Sofia, who stayed at home.

The Princess of Asturias accompanied her father to deliver the Royal Dispatches to the new promotion of the Non-Commissioned Officers Scale at the Basic General Academy of Non-Commissioned Officers in Talarn.

The Princess of Asturias once again wore the Army uniform and shared special moments with her father, with whom she has a very close relationship.

This debut, just after receiving her office of lady ensign cadet, suggests that the heiress to the throne could accompany the king in more military events in the future, as long as her military training allows it.

    Princess Leonor’s upcoming duties

Next week will also be a busy one for the Princess. As announced by the Royal Household, Leonor will travel to Barcelona on Tuesday, July 9 to preside over the Princess of Girona Awards, which this year celebrates its 15th anniversary.

Leonor and her sister Sofia will be the first to arrive in Barcelona.

According to the foundation’s agenda, they will visit the workshop of artist Jaume Plensa in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, where they will learn about his creative process and see the sculptures he has been working on.

Later, King Felipe and Queen Letizia will join their daughters in an informal meeting with some of the award winners from previous years.

The tour of Catalonia will culminate on Wednesday, July 10 with the awards ceremony. Before that, Leonor and Sofia will preside over a meeting with young people in the Santa Clotilde Gardens in Lloret de Mar.

That afternoon, the royal family will arrive at the Palacio de Congresos for the awards ceremony, where we will once again hear Leonor give her speech in Catalan, a language she masters perfectly.

On July 12, Leonor will make her first official trip abroad without the company of her parents.

The princess will travel to Lisbon to meet the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo, at the Belém Palace.

This meeting aims to strengthen the ties of fraternity between Spain and Portugal and will focus on the protection of the environment and the conservation of the oceans, a cause that is also important to Queen Sofia.

During her stay in Portugal, Leonor will also make a cultural visit and meet with young Spanish residents in the country at the Spanish embassy in Lisbon.

This will be an opportunity to demonstrate that she is fully prepared to take on major institutional responsibilities.

    Vacation? Not yet

Although she will not enter the Escuela Naval de Marín (Pontevedra) until August, Leonor will have a first taste of her future home on July 16, when she accompanies her parents to the delivery of Royal Dispatches to the new officers of the Spanish Navy.

After this event, she will finally be able to enjoy a well-deserved summer vacation in Palma de Mallorca, as is tradition in the royal family.
