In Marín, the small town of Pontevedra, Christmas this year has a special glow.
The presence of Princess Leonor at the Naval School has inspired a unique tribute in the form of a luminous royal crown that adorns the vicinity of the place where the heiress to the throne continues her military training.
This detail has become the central element of the Christmas lighting in the area, arousing pride among neighbors and curiosity among visitors.
A Festive Tribute to Princess Leonor in Marín
As explained by the mayor of Marin, Maria Ramallo, the idea was the initiative of the company in charge of the Christmas lights, who wanted to pay a “wink to the princess of Asturias”.
The wreath, made with LED lights, not only illuminates the holidays, but also reinforces the link between the town and its illustrious temporary neighbor.
The lighting, celebrated with music by the local choir, has attracted many onlookers, who hope that the imposing decoration will serve as a new tourist attraction.
“It is a differentiating and significant element for us,” commented the mayoress to ‘Diario de Pontevedra’, highlighting the importance of this gesture in a region known for its competition in Christmas decorations, such as the famous lights of Vigo.
An outstanding neighbor
Leonor arrived in Marin in August, after completing the first year of her military training in Zaragoza. Since then, she has lived like any other midshipman, sharing a room with three fellow midshipwomen and keeping strict schedules.
Her day includes five hours of classes in the morning and another three in the afternoon, as well as time to study, play sports and enjoy meals.
On weekends, the princess has taken advantage of her free time to go out with classmates or receive visits from her parents, King Felipe and Queen Letizia.
Next Challenges on the Horizon
On December 20, Leonor will begin her Christmas vacation, marking the end of her stay in Marin. In January 2024, she will embark on the training ship Juan Sebastián Elcano for a six-month sea crossing, replicating the experience of her father, King Felipe VI.
This will be one of the key steps in his military preparation, which will conclude with his entry into the General Air Academy of San Javier, in Murcia, during the summer of 2025.
