Princess Leonor has arrived in Cartagena de Indias and has not gone unnoticed.
The heiress to the Spanish throne disembarked this Friday in the Colombian port as part of the itinerary of the training ship Juan Sebastián Elcano, where she has been training since January.
Her visit marks a special moment, not only because it is an important stopover on her voyage, but also because it is the first time that a member of the Spanish royal family has visited this city on a military mission.
Princess Leonor in Colombia
Welcomed with enthusiasm by locals who were waiting to see her in person, Leonor responded as she has done at every stop on this trip.
With a smile, she waved from the deck along with her companions, all dressed in midshipmen’s uniform.
The atmosphere was more than protocol; the pride of those who know they are witnessing something rare was palpable.
During her stay in Cartagena, which will last until May 12, the princess took part in a flag-swearing ceremony at the stern of the emblematic ship. She carried the Spanish flag in front of the authorities present, including the ship’s commander and the Spanish ambassador to Colombia.
The scene was solemn, but also emotional. It is not just anything to see a future queen commit herself in this way to her military training.
This act is part of her preparation as a military officer, a path that Leonor has assumed with discipline and visibility.
After passing through Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, and Peru, her passage through Colombia adds to the images that are building the story of a princess who takes her institutional role seriously.
Once the ship sails for the Dominican Republic, it will continue its route to the United States, with a final stop in New York.
In June, it will begin its return to Spain. But the voyage does not end there. Before disembarking in Cadiz, the ship will visit several Spanish cities. Then, in the summer, Leonor will join the General Air and Space Academy in Murcia.
