The Paris 2024 Olympic Games kicked off in style and tennis fans were eagerly awaiting the doubles match of an unprecedented pair, according to the official website of the Olympic Games.
The Spanish team of Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz faced the Argentine team of Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni.
In the audience, two special guests were eagerly cheering them on: Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia.
Leonor and Sofia at the Paris Olympics
The daughters of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia made a surprise appearance this Saturday, July 27, to support the dynamic Spanish tennis duo.
Dressed casually, Infanta Sofia wore blue jeans while Princess Leonor opted for white.
Both wore bright red jackets, proudly sporting the colors of the Spanish national team, and their faces lit up with smiles as they enjoyed the match.
Earlier this week, King Felipe had hinted that several members of the Royal Family would be attending the Olympics to ensure Spain was well represented at key events.
True to his word, the Infantas continued their royal presence after their parents attended the grand opening ceremony on Friday, July 26.
The King and Queen were joined by a group of royals from across Europe, including Crown Prince Frederick and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco, and King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium.
Welcomed by French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, the royals enjoyed the ceremony despite the rain, enthusiastically cheering on their athletes and sheltering under raincoats.
Now, with clearer skies, it was Leonor and Sofia’s turn to soak up the Olympic spirit.
The sisters were lucky enough to enjoy the tennis match under favorable weather conditions, unlike their parents, who had braved the downpour.
As avid tennis fans, the princess and infanta were on the edge of their seats, celebrating every impressive rally and point won by Nadal and Alcaraz.
Their joy was contagious, and reached its peak when the Spanish pair claimed victory, raising their arms in triumph with their fellow spectators.
