In the middle of her voyage aboard the training ship Juan Sebastián Elcano, Princess Leonor made a gesture that did not go unnoticed.
During the ship’s stopover in the Peruvian port of Callao, the heiress to the Spanish throne met with the widow of the renowned writer Mario Vargas Llosa, Patricia Llosa, and two of her children, Gonzalo and Morgana. It was a private and simple meeting.
Leonor Meets Vargas Llosa’s Family in Peru
The meeting took place on the deck of the emblematic Spanish Navy ship, where Leonor is completing part of her training as a midshipman.
The image, released by the Royal Household, shows the young princess in her dress uniform next to the writer’s family, who are dressed in black as a sign of mourning.
The exact date on which the photograph was taken has not been specified, although it is known that the ship was docked in Callao from Friday until Tuesday, when it left for Panama.
Vargas Llosa, Peruvian and Spanish writer, died last April 13 in Lima at the age of 89. His definitive return to Peru marked the final stretch of a life spent between Madrid, Paris and other cities, always linked to literature and intellectual debate.
Princess Leonor’s journey continues
The Juan Sebastián Elcano, which set sail from Cadiz on January 11, has been touring Latin America for months. Before arriving in Peru, it stopped in Brazil, Uruguay and Chile.
Now the ship continues its voyage through the Caribbean and North America, with stops planned in Colombia, the Dominican Republic and New York.
