Two days after her appointment as lady ensign, Leonor de Borbón, Princess of Asturias, has presided over a military event alongside her father, King Felipe VI.
This event took place in Talarn, Lleida, where both attended the delivery of Royal Dispatches to the new Promotion of the Non-Commissioned Officers Scale at the Basic General Academy of Non-Commissioned Officers (AGBS).
The rapport between the King and his daughter was evident, as has been observed on previous occasions.
Princess Leonor in Lleida
Throughout the event, King Felipe VI was attentive to his daughter, explaining every detail of the ceremony, aware that in the future she will be the one to preside over these military events.
Both, the King and the Princess, wore the formal uniform of the Army, in a shade of green. They also wore the same military hat and the prestigious decoration of the Golden Fleece, hanging from a red ribbon around their necks.
They also wore the white sash of the Order of Military Merit, an honor that the King bestowed on Leonor recently in Zaragoza.
The main difference in their uniforms lay in the waist.
While Leonor wore the standard Army dress uniform sash, the King, as Captain General of the Army, wore a red sash.
As for decorations, Leonor only wears the Cross of the Order of Civil Merit, while her father also displays the Cross of Aeronautical Merit with White Distinctive and the Naval Cross, distinctions that the Princess has not yet received.
Leonor, who is already a lady ensign, is fully committed to her military training. After finishing her first course at the Military Academy of Zaragoza, she will begin a new stage at the Naval School of Marín, in Galicia, Spain, on August 30.
Princess Leonor’s July agenda
Leonor’s agenda for next week is full of engagements. On July 9, she and her sister Sofia will visit the Jaume Plensa Workshop in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, as part of the activities they carry out in Catalonia with the Princess of Girona Foundation.
In previous years, they visited the Dalí Museum in Figueras and Ferran Adrià’s ellBulliFoundation in Roses. This year, they will have the opportunity to see the work of world-renowned Catalan sculptor Jaume Plensa.
That same evening, in Lloret de Mar, where the Princess of Girona Awards will be held, Leonor and Sofia will meet with former winners, accompanied by their parents, King Felipe and Queen Letizia.
The following day, the sisters will have a meeting with young people from the Foundation’s programs, followed by a meeting with the advisory board and the presentation of a study on the ‘Professional Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Young People’, carried out with Deloitte.
In the afternoon, at the Palau de Congresos Costa Brava in Lloret de Mar, this year’s awards will be presented. During the ceremony, Leonor will deliver a speech in Catalan and Spanish, as is tradition.
After these events, Leonor will make her international debut by traveling to Lisbon, Portugal. She will be received at the Belém Palace by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
This will be her first international visit without the company of her family, although she will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares.
