Princess Leonor, heir to the Spanish throne, continues to demonstrate her commitment and dedication aboard the “Juan Sebastián de Elcano”, the most emblematic training ship of the Spanish Navy.
During this voyage of almost six months, the young princess shares her day-to-day life with her fellow midshipmen, facing the challenges of naval life and putting into practice everything she has learned in her military training.
Princess Leonor’s Naval Training Aboard the Elcano
Sources close to the Navy have confirmed that Leonor is actively participating in the ship’s work, as part of a team in which cooperation and precision are key.
“She is putting all her knowledge to the test, like the rest of her shipmates,” they noted, highlighting her ability to adapt to the demanding maritime environment.
A voyage to America
The “Elcano” set sail from the Canary Islands bound for Salvador de Bahia, Brazil, where it is expected to arrive on February 14, provided the winds and weather conditions are favorable.
This initial stage is only part of the extensive route that will take the Princess across the Atlantic, around South America and through iconic points such as the Panama Canal and the Caribbean.
The experience will end in New York, where she will continue her training on another Navy ship.
Life aboard the ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’
Life on this ship is not easy, but deeply enriching.
The “Elcano” is a symbol of the Spanish naval tradition, and a place where fundamental values such as responsibility, effort and teamwork are forged.
On a daily basis, Leonor participates in sail maneuvers, maintenance tasks and other essential activities for navigation, working side by side with her companions.
According to Zarzuela’s sources, the princess “is excited and focused” at this stage, in which her role is not that of an isolated figure, but that of a key piece within the gear of the crew.
Advice from her father
During the Christmas vacations, Leonor took advantage of her time with King Felipe VI to receive advice about life aboard the ship.
“The king is very attentive to his daughter and tries to tell her about his experience, to provide her with ideas for her skills on the training ship,” shared close sources.
Comprehensive training for the future
The stay aboard the “Elcano” represents a crucial stage in the training of future Navy officers.
Through practical training and direct contact with the sea, the midshipmen consolidate their technical and seafaring knowledge while assimilating the principles and values that define the naval profession.
For Leonor, this voyage reinforces her practical skills, and also tests her determination and commitment as heir to the throne.
