Princess Leonor has begun a new phase in her military training aboard the frigate Blas de Lezo, one of the Spanish Navy’s most important warships.
Dressed in her white midshipman’s uniform, the heir to the throne embarked on Saturday night at the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to join a 19-day mission, marked by live-fire maneuvers.
Leonor Begins Naval Training on Blas de Lezo
This is a shorter but also more demanding training program than her previous voyage on the training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano, where she spent almost six months.
Without her parents present on this occasion, Leonor was welcomed by the crew and the ship’s commander, Pedro Ramos Carbonell, who gave her an initial tour of the facilities.
The images released by the Royal Household show her with a serene expression and confident attitude as she steps onto the deck, while the protocol formula announces her arrival on board.
Once at sea, she began her active participation in Operation Sinek 25, which includes Harpoon missile launch exercises and live combat drills alongside more than 200 crew members.
The frigate’s crew also includes an air unit and a marine detachment responsible for the ship’s security.
During this stage, Leonor will also attend training sessions that are part of her preparation as future head of the Armed Forces.
After completing this exercise in the Mediterranean, including a stopover in Ceuta, she is scheduled to return to the Rota base in July.
On the 3rd of that month, Leonor will meet up with her colleagues from Elcano in Gijón, resuming joint training that will culminate shortly afterwards in Marín.
With this stage, the princess is nearing the end of almost a full year of naval training to continue strengthening her institutional profile in preparation for the future role that awaits her.
