After five months sailing aboard the training ship Juan Sebastián Elcano, Princess Leonor will return to Spain to continue with a new phase of her military training.
Starting on June 14, she will join the frigate Blas de Lezo, one of the most advanced vessels in the Spanish Navy, where she will spend just over two weeks.
During this period, the heiress will participate in operational exercises that include live-fire drills as part of the Sinkex exercise, and later she will join the Dédalo expeditionary combat group.
Leonor Joins Blas de Lezo for Next Military Training Phase
Leonor will board the frigate in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The ship, equipped for anti-aircraft missions, will be her new living environment while she completes the next stage of her training.
She will share a cabin with another colleague in a more spacious area than on the Elcano, equipped with wardrobes, a desk, and a personal computer.
She will also have regular access to the internet and will be able to use her phone more frequently, a significant difference from her previous experience at sea.
On the Blas de Lezo, she will live with some 200 people, including officers, sailors, and civilian personnel. As an officer, she will share routines and meals in the officers’ mess, where the treatment is different from that of the sailors, who maintain a self-service system.
This stage will mark a change of pace, but it also represents a logical continuation of her preparation as future head of the Armed Forces.
Coinciding with her return, Queen Letizia has cleared her schedule, suggesting that she may take advantage of these days to spend time with Leonor and Infanta Sofía.
The family has not been together since last Christmas, when the academic and military obligations of both daughters took them down different paths.
