Princess Leonor, 17, is about to land in Spain after graduating from UWC Atlantic College in Wales, where she successfully completed her high school studies. The ceremony was attended by her parents Felipe VI, 55, and Letizia, 50, and her sister, Infanta Sofía, 16.
The graduation left memorable images in which the Spanish Royal Family appears united and happy. We also managed to learn a little more about Leonor’s true personality through her tutor, who dedicated a few words to the heiress before receiving her diploma.
When does Princess Leonor return to Spain?
Leonor is expected to arrive in Spain on May 25, the same day that her sister will receive the sacrament of confirmation for what would be her first family engagement.
This Thursday, the Infanta Sofía will receive confirmation in the parish of Asunción de Nuestra Señora de Aravaca, the same place where Leonor was confirmed two years ago and where both sisters made their first communion.
Due to the size of the church where the ceremony will take place, the guest list is expected to be small. Therefore, the Infanta Sofía will be accompanied by her parents and her sister. If the princess chooses a different godfather or godmother, he or she will be added to the guest list.
What will Leonor, Princess of Asturias do during her vacation?
After finishing her studies, Princess Leonor has no official obligations to fulfill for now, so she will enjoy almost three months of vacation before heading to Zaragoza at the end of the summer to begin her military training.
During this time, the young woman will be able to enjoy Madrid, meet her friends again, and then travel with the rest of her family to Mallorca, as they do every summer.
During the summer, Leonor will have the opportunity to share with her sister some of her experiences in Wales, to prepare her for her next stay there. It must be remembered that at the end of August, Sofía will go to the UWC Atlantic College boarding school in Wales, to study two years of high school like her older sister.
In September, the heiress to the throne will begin her military life. She will spend her first year of training in the Army in Zaragoza, the second year she will join the Marín Naval School in Pontevedra, and the third, at the San Javier General Air Academy in Murcia.
The Princess of Asturias will dedicate a total of three years to her military training, following in the footsteps of her father when he was the Prince of Asturias. This stage is fundamental in the education of the heirs to the throne since in the future they will occupy the position of commander in chief of the armed forces of the country and they must acquire a deep knowledge of its internal functioning.
Once the military training is finished, Leonor must continue her university studies to complement her academic training. It is still unknown if she will choose to study in Spain or if she will consider studying abroad.
