Princess Leonor, 18, is counting down the weeks until she says goodbye to what has been her home for over nine months.
The heir to the throne will leave the Military Academy of Zaragoza next month in June, but before that, she faces a very busy and challenging final stretch.
Princess Leonor’s Popularity in Zaragoza
In mid-May the Armed Forces Day was celebrated in Zaragoza, and to commemorate the occasion, as every year, the Military Academy opened its doors to anyone who wanted to visit.
Many people were able to enter the facilities and according to the local media, the event was a great success.
Those who visited, including dozens of children, got to learn the academy’s secrets through guided tours.
They also enjoyed several exhibitions featuring military photos and weapons set up just for this occasion.
Visitors witnessed parades and horse-riding shows performed by some of the soldiers.
Local newspapers all agree that Princess Leonor has not only put the city of Zaragoza on the map but also boosted the military academy’s popularity.
Although this open house event happens every year, this time it drew many more visitors eager to see where the future queen lives.
“I see more people than in other years. If there’s any chance of seeing Leonor, I think that sparks interest,” a young visitor told Aragón Digital.
It’s unknown if Leonor joined the activities with her fellow cadets or if, for security reasons, she stayed out of sight to avoid causing a bigger commotion.
