Princess Leonor continues her training aboard the training ship Juan Sebastian de Elcano, and has arrived for the first time in Santa Marta, Colombia.

The arrival took place amid a solemn welcome with cannon salutes and a parade of vessels from the region, including ships from Cartagena, Barranquilla and the Independent ship of the National Navy.

This stop, unprecedented in the ship’s itinerary, is due to the interest of the mayor of the city, coinciding with the fifth centenary of the founding of Santa Marta.

During her stay, a program of activities is planned, including the symbolic presentation of the keys of the city to the captain of the Elcano, a floral offering and a local fair.

Although the Princess of Asturias has not been assigned an institutional role, her participation as one of the midshipmen is not ruled out.

In fact, Santa Marta holds open days on the ship, and it is possible that Leonor will personally receive some visitors.

On board, the heiress to the throne maintains her formative role and the discipline involved in this voyage.

As in other stopovers, she has appeared in the Navy’s regulation uniform, including the female cap and the distinctions that mark her status: the Order of Charles III, the Grand Cross of Military Merit with white badge and the Grand Cross of the Military Order of Christ.

Despite these decorations, her integration with the group of midshipmen continues to be evident.

Santa Marta is the ship’s penultimate stop in America. On Friday they will set sail for the Dominican Republic and then head for New York, the last stop before returning to Spain.

The Princess is scheduled to return to the country at the beginning of July, after completing the last stops in Gijón, Ferrol and Cádiz, thus closing a six-month voyage.
