With a gesture of deep recognition and appreciation, the General Military Academy of Zaragoza is preparing to bid farewell to Princess Leonor, who is completing the first part of her military training.
The Princess has been the object of several honors from the city, the most recent being her appointment as the city’s favorite daughter, and now the authorities will present her with the Medal of Aragon.
What is the Medal of Aragon to be awarded to Princess Leonor?
This latest award, approved by the government of this Spanish region, symbolizes the affection of the Aragonese people for the Princess.
The future Queen has shown a “special sensitivity to our land”, according to the decree announcing the recognition of the daughter of King Felipe and Queen Letizia.
Following the family tradition, the Princess emulates her father, King Felipe, who also received both decorations during his training as a cadet in Zaragoza almost four decades ago.
The government spokeswoman informed King Felipe of the intention to bestow this distinction on the Princess, a proposal that was welcomed by the monarch.
The visit of the King and Queen of Spain to Zaragoza last May 4, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the swearing-in of the King’s graduating class, was the occasion for an emotional reunion with the Princess at the Military Academy.
For King Felipe, returning to Zaragoza has a special meaning, bringing back memories of happiness and lasting friendships.
While it is too early to tell whether Princess Leonor will form equally strong bonds with the city and her fellow students, for now she is enjoying her experience in Zaragoza alongside her friends at the Academy.
With the completion of her military training scheduled for July 15th, Princess Leonor awaits the awarding of the Medal of Aragon.
After a short break, the Princess will resume training at the Naval Academy in August.
Her final year of training, between 2025 and 2026, will be at the General Air Academy.
