Princess Leonor is in the final stages of her training as a midshipman aboard the training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano.
After weeks of sailing with her classmates from the Naval Military School, the heir to the throne arrived in Ferrol, the penultimate stop for the iconic ship before completing this chapter of her military training.
There, she is participating in exercises and official activities as part of the symbolic conclusion of an experience that has brought her into contact with marine life and the values of military service.
The ship is scheduled to set sail on Sunday, July 14, bound for Marín, in Pontevedra, where the most significant event of this stage will take place: the presentation of her commission as a second lieutenant.
The ceremony will be held on Wednesday, July 16, at the Naval Military School and will be presided over by King Felipe VI.
It will be the first public reunion between father and daughter since Leonor embarked, and also a moment laden with symbolism in her training as future head of the Armed Forces.
This event will mark the end of her time in the Navy, which began in August 2023, and will open the next phase of her military training at the General Air Academy in San Javier.
Leonor’s intense and carefully designed journey follows the model her father experienced and seeks to provide her with real experience in the different branches of the Army.
