Princess Leonor has once again been the center of attention, this time at the traditional ‘Baile del Ciento’ (Dance of the Hundred), an emblematic event at the Naval Academy of Marín.
This dance, which marks the beginning of the countdown to embarkation on the training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano, is held approximately one hundred days before the midshipmen begin their training cruise.
Princess Leonor at the “Baile del Ciento”
Although it usually takes place at the end of November, this year it was postponed due to the official mourning for the victims of the floods, moving to last Saturday night, December 7.
Leonor, who entered the naval academy in August, attended the event as one of her peers. According to close sources, the Princess of Asturias enjoyed the music and the atmosphere of the ball with enthusiasm.
Although attendees can attend with companions, she opted to participate alone, reflecting her independent character.
An active social agenda
The newspaper Faro de Vigo revealed that, in addition to the Baile del Ciento, Leonor participated in other activities with her classmates over the weekend. Among them, a visit to a furancho in Poio, a typical Galician place known for its family atmosphere and homemade food, and a private party at the Liceo Casino.
Although these moments have left no photographic record, they reinforce the idea that the princess fully shares the daily life and traditions of the naval academy.
Preparing for a new stage
Starting January 11, Princess Leonor will take an important step in her military training by embarking on the Juan Sebastián de Elcano, following in the footsteps of her father, King Felipe VI, who made this same voyage at her age.
During the 140 days of navigation, he will visit nine countries, although he will not complete the entire itinerary nor will he return from South America.
In addition, as part of his training, he will participate in maneuvers aboard other ships of the fleet, including the aircraft carrier Juan Carlos I, a key experience in his development as a midshipman.
Finally, on July 16, coinciding with the feast of the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of sailors, Leonor will return with her shipmates to the Marín naval base, thus completing this significant stage in her training.
