This Tuesday, July 16, Leonor de Borbón lived a significant day in her military career.
Accompanied by her parents, the King and Queen of Spain, she visited the Marín Naval Academy in Galicia, where she will spend the next academic year.
The visit coincided with the celebration of the Day of Carmen, patron saint of the Spanish Navy, and with the delivery of Royal Dispatches to the new officers.
Princess Leonor Visits Naval Academy in Marín
Dressed in the uniform of ensign of the Army, which she has after her year at the General Military Academy of Zaragoza, Leonor was up to the occasion.
Her father, King Felipe VI, wore the Navy dress uniform, which Leonor will also wear from August 29 when she begins her training in Marin as a third-year midshipman, following the plan of the Ministry of Defense.
Accustomed to military ceremonies, the Princess followed attentively the indications of her father, who has been her best mentor.
During the event, the commander director of the Navy, Pedro Cardona Suanzes, welcomed the future heir to the throne with some emotional words: “Welcome, your highness, to what will always be your home”.
Cardona Suanzes added: “In front of your Highness, your companions are formed today. A group of friends and colleagues who are also dedicated to the service of the Spanish people with respect and loyalty. You will find in them a second family and they already have confidence in your highness”.
Princess Leonor’s schedule at the Naval Academy includes three months of intensive training, followed by embarkation on the ship Juan Sebastian Elcano, as her father did.
This six-month training cruise will begin in January. The ports to be visited and the exact route the ship will follow are not yet known.
Leonor’s visit to Marin marks another important step in her preparation for future responsibilities as heir to the Spanish throne.
This stage underscores her commitment to military training and her dedication to serving Spain.
