After more than twenty days at sea, the training ship Elcano has arrived in Brazil, marking a new chapter in the training of Princess Leonor and her fellow midshipmen.

On February 14, the emblematic ship docked in Salvador de Bahia, where a warm, colorful and musical welcome from the local community awaited them.

The port of Salvador de Bahia vibrated with the drums of the Pracatum school, a female percussion group that, to the rhythm of the batucada, welcomed the Spanish crew.

Founded by the renowned Brazilian musician Carlinhos Brown, the school has become a symbol of inclusion and community development in the Candeal Pequeño neighborhood of Brotas.

During the meeting, the ship’s midshipmen expressed their appreciation for the warm reception and highlighted the important role played by the Pracatum Social Action Association in education and culture in the area.

A special moment for Princess Leonor

Princess Leonor, who is participating in this cruise as part of her training in the Armed Forces, did not hide her enthusiasm at the reception.

Accompanied by her companions, she enjoyed the energy of the moment and shared smiles with the hosts.

“The atmosphere was incredible, full of music and emotion”, highlighted sources close to the entourage.

    Activities and meetings in Brazil

The stay in Salvador de Bahia has not only focused on the festive reception, but has also included a series of official engagements.

Hours after her arrival, Princess Leonor attended a lunch with the Spanish Ambassador to Brazil, María del Mar Fernández-Palacio Carmona, and senior military and diplomatic officials, reaffirming the importance of this trip in bilateral relations.

In addition, in the coming days, citizens who so wish will be able to visit the Juan Sebastián de Elcano and learn about life on board.

As is tradition, a flag swearing in ceremony has been organized for Spaniards living in Brazil, a unique opportunity to connect with their roots and witness the visit of the heiress to the Spanish throne up close.

    A trip with historical significance

The stopover in Salvador de Bahia is no coincidence. This year marks the 400th anniversary of the recovery of the city by a Spanish-Portuguese fleet, an event that marked the history of the region.

The presence of the Juan Sebastián de Elcano in this context reinforces the ties between Spain and Brazil, recalling the importance of cultural exchange and cooperation between nations.

    Next stop: Uruguay

The Juan Sebastián de Elcano will remain in Salvador de Bahía until February 19, when it will set sail for its next destination: Uruguay.

In the meantime, the crew will continue its training program, which includes navigation training, watchkeeping exercises and various protocol activities.
