Princess Leonor has had a few intense days of work with the monarchy. After spending most of her life in the background due to her mother’s decision to not overly expose her daughters, now, at 18, she is taking on more and more royal duties.

One of these commitments was the Princess of Girona Awards held on July 10, 2024.

In one of the preceding events, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía visited the workshop of sculptor Jaume Plensa, whose sculptures adorn places in Canada and cities like Chicago.

For their tour of the space, both opted for monochromatic looks in which white was the protagonist.

Additionally, they shared similarities in their footwear, wearing identical espadrilles from Macarena Shoes.

Leonor paired pants with a long-sleeved blouse in cotton voile with large checkered Jacquard, signed by Roberto Verino; while Sofía chose an artisanal-style outfit with cutouts from Ba&sh.

However, everything proceeded normally until one of their bodyguards caused a controversial moment.

What happened with Princess Leonor’s bodyguard?

Numerous onlookers approached the vicinity of the workshop to get a closer look at the Princess and the Infanta, who, upon leaving, spent several minutes greeting and taking photos.

Many approached Leonor, who kindly posed with the people.

However, a moment of tension arose when a lady approached the princess and, as she placed her arm on the woman’s shoulder, the woman tried to wrap her arm around the princess.

It was then that one of the security team members quickly and without delicacy removed the woman’s hand.

The moment was recorded on video and shared on Instagram accounts dedicated to the Spanish royalty.

On that platform, many expressed their astonishment at discovering that one cannot touch the princess, while others rejected the bodyguard’s gesture.

In the Instagram post you can read comments like:

    • “I understand why they can’t touch her but maybe they could explain to the person instead of just grabbing and pulling their arm away, leonor is putting her arm around them they might think it’s okay to reciprocate”.
    • “In my opinion, the action of the bodyguards was inappropriate.”
    • “I agree that they don’t always have time to explain but Leonor puts her arm around them first, that’s an invitation for the other person to do the same, so maybe they need to tell Leonor not touch people unnecessarily cause some royals just stand side by side without contact for pics with strangers. Sofia takes a picture next to her without touching the woman at all. If it was the person first putting their arm around Leonor then I would understand the pulling and grabbing but it just comes across as rude and inappropriate to me cause Leonor initiates the contact”
    • “Is for security and they don’t have enough time to explain, bodyguard have to respond immediately “
    • “The security did there job.
    • “I don’t understand why people feel entitled to touch others without their permission.. that was rude. She Is not your daughter..”
    • “Why is she permitted to touch but someone else isn’t ?”
    • “I didn’t like what the bodyguard did”
    • “That’s kinda stupid. She’s still just a person. The British royals don’t care if people touch them. Especially when taking a picture, it’s pretty natural. Of course it used to be against the rules there too but it has never been enforced there like this.”
    • “I didn’t know about this, but if you pulled my hand like that, I wouldn’t be responsible for my actions. What disgusting behavior!”
