Leonor of Borbón By Lillian Torres

Discover the hidden meaning behind the decorations that Princess Leonor wears exclusively

Princess Leonor, always at the epicenter of media attention, is currently in the midst of a voyage aboard the Juan Sebastian Elcano.

Although this sea voyage is a formative experience that many people in her position would not have, it has not been without controversy, especially since the Spanish press reported that the princess kissed a boy on her last day in Brazil, as we reported here on RoyalFamily.news.

The ship, which has become her second home, arrived in Salvador de Bahia, where she was greeted with music and merriment—a party that surely lived up to the locale.

Leonor and her companions enjoyed the charms of this magnificent Brazilian city, exploring its wonders and, of course, commemorating historic events, such as the 400th anniversary of Salvador’s recovery from the Dutch.

Moments like these are what make historical learning so much more tangible, and Leonor is right there in the front row.

In the midst of her quest for adventure, the future queen has also dressed up for various institutional engagements.

What do Princess Leonor’s decorations mean?

Something that catches the eye is the decorations that Princess Leonor wears on her uniform, which are different from those of her companions, as none of them have those worn by the princess.

This gesture, although it may seem superficial to some, carries significant weight, as each of these medals symbolizes an achievement and a commitment to her country.

For those not so familiar with the subject, Leonor’s decorations have an interesting message.

    • The first blue and white one represents the Order of Charles III, an honor reserved for those who stand out in Spanish society.
    • The second is the Military Merit, which not only recognizes members of the Army but rewards acts of valor.

    • And the third, the Grand Cross of the Military Order of Christ, is a very special distinction awarded to her by the President of Portugal.

So, while Princess Leonor sails around the world celebrating her youth and facing the responsibilities that royal life imposes on her, she also leaves her mark in history, and that is something to admire.

Not to mention the awkward situations that being part of royalty always brings, such as the kissing drama that has captured everyone’s attention. Every step she takes becomes a story to tell.
