The General Military Academy of Zaragoza, the prestigious institution where Princess Leonor is being trained, is in the eye of the storm following a scandal involving a cadet and a high-ranking officer.
Princess Leonor, heir to the Spanish throne, enrolled at this academy in August 2023 to begin her military training, an essential step on her path to the crown.
Though she undergoes rigorous training and integrates like any other student, the Academy’s reputation is now tarnished by a recent controversy.
What happened at the Zaragoza Military Academy?
The Spanish press reports that an officer at the academy has been accused of having an alleged relationship with a fellow cadet who lived with the princess for several months, according to El Confidencial Digital.
The matter, which could result in disciplinary sanctions for the officer involved, is being investigated by the academy’s leadership.
So far, the institution’s communications department has chosen not to make any statements.
El Confidencial Digital suggests that the case could trigger a series of disciplinary measures aimed at eradicating inappropriate behavior within the academy.
The relationship between the cadet and the officer, given the disparity in rank, could be interpreted as a violation of military ethics and discipline, possibly constituting an abuse of authority.
Despite the scandal, Princess Leonor will continue her training at the Zaragoza Military Academy until July 15, after which she will join the Naval Academy and sail on the training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano, continuing her preparation for the throne.
