Leonor of Borbón By Lillian Torres

One step closer to the throne: Princess Leonor adds a new title

Princess Leonor, the future Queen of Spain, continues to receive recognition in the midst of her military training, another step on her path to the throne.

The 18-year-old heiress, who is currently at the military academy in Zaragoza, is receiving special recognition from the city where she has lived for the past year.

Leonor is preparing to leave the region to continue her military training in another Spanish city, and for this reason the local authorities are preparing a special recognition.

Specifically, as detailed by the Spanish media, before the end of her stay, the City Council of Zaragoza is already planning to grant her the distinction of Adopted Daughter of the City.

It is intended to highlight the Princess of Asturias “for her merits and services to the city”, according to the institution.

It should be recalled that Felipe VI had already received the same title and in the same way as Leonor, months before leaving the Military Academy of Zaragoza.

At that time, the ceremony of this recognition brought together hundreds of onlookers at the gates of the City Hall, eager to see up close the then Prince of Asturias.

Felipe gladly accepted the title and signed the Golden Book of the city. Before finishing, a young Felipe remarked how easy it had been to feel like just another person in the city, not easy considering who he was.

This is not the only gesture of gratitude that Leonor has received from the city that has welcomed her since last August 2023.

A few months ago, it was announced that the Auditorium of Zaragoza would bear Leonor’s name, “a tribute to the Princess by naming the city’s most important cultural institution after her,” according to the mayor’s office.

A new step in military career

It will be next May when the heir to the throne will complete her training in the Army and then move to the Region of Murcia to begin a year of training in the Air Force.

Although she has kept a low profile for months due to her military training, the truth is that Princess Leonor is a key player in the new phase of the Spanish Crown.

This was emphasized a few days ago by Felipe VI during his speech in the Netherlands, where he did not hesitate to emphasize her fundamental role as heir to the throne.
