Princess Leonor’s Oath of Allegiance to the Constitution ceremony on October 31st will be an important event, as it will mark an important moment in her life.
On that day, Princess Leonor will turn 18, making it the right time for the future Queen to swear allegiance to the Constitution of her country.
According to the provisions of Article 61 of the Spanish Constitution, the Crown Prince, upon reaching the age of majority, must swear an oath to faithfully perform his duties, to respect and uphold the Constitution and the laws, and to respect the rights of citizens and the Autonomous Communities, in addition to swearing allegiance to the King.
This will not be the first ceremony in which the Princess will participate. A few days earlier, she was the protagonist of the oath of allegiance to the Spanish flag at the Military Academy, where she will undergo three years of rigorous training in preparation for the accession to the throne.
What Princess Leonor’s oath to the Constitution will be like
Princess Leonor’s oath to the Constitution will take place in a solemn session of Congress and Senate in the Hemicycle of the Chamber of Deputies, as established by the Constitution.
The event will begin at 11 a.m. with the arrival of King Felipe and Queen Letizia, accompanied by their daughters Leonor and Sofia.
The Royal Family will be escorted by the Royal Guard Squadron and will form the Battalion of Honour, together with four companies from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Civil Guard.
They will be received by the current President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the Chief of Defense Staff, Teodoro Esteban López Calderón.
After this ceremony, another event will take place at the Royal Palace in Madrid, where Princess Leonor will receive the necklace of the Order of Charles III in the presence of the Heads of State.
This will be followed by a luncheon attended by representatives of the highest institutions.
Finally, the day will be concluded with a private and family event.
This ceremony will be an important milestone in Princess Leonor’s life, marking her commitment to her country and her preparation for her future responsibilities as Queen.
