Princess Leonor is in the final stretch of her military training at the San Javier General Air Academy, and with that on the table, the most frequently asked question remains the same: What comes next?
Leonor has served in all three branches of the military, learning to drive tanks and pilot aircraft, and now it’s time for a complete change of scenery. From military uniforms to university classrooms.

It’s a big leap, and the decision to be made is no less significant, because the academic path of Spain’s future queen is not designed lightly.
When will the Royal Household announce the university and degree program Leonor will pursue?
According to sources close to the Palace consulted by the Monarquía Confidencial website, May is the month chosen for the official announcement. Until then, details about the specific faculty or degree will remain under a fairly strict level of discretion.

What is known is that King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia are carefully considering each step. As the former head of the Royal Household, Jaime Alfonsín, once revealed, the princess’s education is a public responsibility that should prioritize institutional awareness and commitment to the country. It is not just a family decision.
Law, International Relations, and Public University
Leonor completed the International Baccalaureate in Wales, which allows her to enter the university system without taking the standard university entrance exam (Selectividad). However, according to experts following her case, she will most likely pursue a tailor-made curriculum combining Law and International Relations.
If she follows in her father’s footsteps, all indications are that she will attend a Spanish public university, thereby strengthening the Crown’s ties with the country’s institutions, before considering any specialization abroad.

Her two closest role models are her own father and mother. Felipe VI was the first Spanish heir to obtain a university degree; he graduated in Law from the Autonomous University of Madrid.

For her part, Letizia studied Journalism at the Complutense University of Madrid. Two degrees, two different profiles, and an heiress who now has to find her own path between the two.
Her military training officially ends in July, and from then on, another chapter of her life begins.
