King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, accompanied by their daughters Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia, presided over an audience with the winners of the Princess of Asturias Awards on Friday, October 20.
On Thursday night, the royal family attended the XXXI Princess of Asturias Concert, kicking off the events framed in this special event for the Spanish royal family.

Princess Leonor, in her capacity as honorary president of the Princess of Asturias Foundation, presented the insignia to the winners of the 43rd Princess of Asturias Awards.
The day began with an audience presided over by the King and Queen of Spain together with their daughters Leonor and Sofia with the award winners in the Covadonga Hall of the Reconquista Hotel in Oviedo.
The awards ceremony is traditionally held at the Campoamor Theater in Oviedo.

For this edition, the award winners, along with their companions, have paraded before the royal family to collect the insignia from the hands of Leonor de Borbón.

- Haruki Murakami, Princess of Asturias Award for Literature.
- Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative, Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation.
- Jeffrey Gordon, E. Peter Greenberg and Bonnie L. Bassler, Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research.
- Mary’s Meals, Princess of Asturias Award for Concord.
King Felipe has been the Honorary President of the Foundation since its creation in 1980. Following his proclamation as King of Spain on June 19, 2014, His eldest daughter, the Princess of Asturias holds the Honorary Presidency of this institution.
According to the website of the Royal Household, this award is intended “to distinguish the scientific, technical, cultural, social and humanitarian work carried out by individuals, institutions, groups of people or institutions in the international field”.
The Princess of Asturias Awards have eight categories: Arts, Literature, Social Sciences, Communication and Humanities, Scientific and Technical Research, International Cooperation, Concord, and Sports.
In 2004, UNESCO recognized its exceptional contribution to the cultural heritage of Humanity.
