Message from Queen Elizabeth to the media
“The COVID-19 pandemic has once again demonstrated how important is the public service provided by the established media, both national and regional. While our world has radically changed, having trusted and reliable sources of information, especially when there are many sources competing for our attention, is vital, ”he said.
Similarly, Elizabeth II highlighted the efforts by the press to support the communities most affected by coronavirus outbreaks.
“The efforts of the media to support communities across the UK during the pandemic have been valuable, whether through fundraising, encouraging volunteerism, or giving hope to the elderly and vulnerable.”
The press was one of the sectors affected by the pandemic. Henry Faure Walker, president of the NMA, an organization highlighted by the queen, asked for help to support local independent journalism.
“Advertising revenue, central to independent journalism, has been hit by the economic slowdown, leaving us with less money to invest in the journalism we all want to read,” Walker added.
