Elizabeth II became Queen of England at the age of 25 after the death of her father, King George V. The coronation of the monarch with the longest reign in history took place on June 2, 1953, at Westminster Abbey.
More than 8,000 guests were present at the lavish ceremony, which became the first to be broadcast on television.
