The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) initiative began in May 2021 in the United Kingdom to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. The initiative aimed to have millions of trees planted in the UK to increase and protect native tree cover.
Queen Elizabeth II planted the first tree with her son, the then Prince Charles of England. Thousands of volunteers, including many of the country’s celebrities, went on to plant three million trees. After the death of Queen, the initiative was expanded to honor her memory.
Queen’s Green Canopy: Photo of King Charles III and Prince William
King Charles III and Prince William have planted a tree at Sandringham to commemorate the end of the Queen’s Green Canopy project. The king was proud of the result achieved with this initiative and posted a very emotional and nostalgic message on his social networks.
One photograph shows when Charles and Prince William planted a maple tree at Sandringham. Another image shows the moment when Charles and his mother planted a tree two years ago.
Harry and William’s father recalls with some sadness that moment when, together with his mother, he started this initiative: “It is hard to believe that two years have passed since my mother and I planted a tree in Windsor Great Park to mark the commencement of The Queen’s Green Canopy. As the second planting season draws to a close, and with it this vitally important initiative, I particularly wanted to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone from across the United Kingdom who has helped to plant over three million trees to create an enduring legacy in Queen Elizabeth’s name.”
In another publication, the official Instagram account of the British Royal Family shows fragments of this film in which the queen can be seen planting trees at different moments of her life.
The king also reveals that “As the project comes to a close, an inspiring film narrated by QGC Ambassador Dame Judi Dench has been released to showcase the dynamic way in which the #queensgreencanopy initiative has united the nation behind a common goal – to plant trees.”
